LANL Guards Reach Out To SOC-LA To Restart Talks
IGUA News:
International Guards Union of America Local 69 (IGUA) just announced that they had reached out to SOC-LA, the company that provides security services at Los Alamos National Laboratory, to resume labor talks.
IGUA said they are reaching out despite the company’s threatening to withhold paychecks from negotiators as part of the contentious talks that the union walked out of last week, due to SOC-LA’s acting in bad faith, and continuing its demands for disproportionate increases in health care costs for union members while offering only a nominal increase in retirement benefits. Four Los Alamos High School seniors have been awarded $2,500 scholarships by the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries, scholarship chairman Maire O’Neill announced Wednesday.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — To kick-off next week as National Dog Bite Prevention Week, the U.S. Postal Service released its top 30 dog attack city rankings and offered tips to reduce dog attacks to letter carriers.
Nationwide, 5,767 postal employees were attacked last year.

Public Access Computers At Mesa Public Library Unavailable All Day Monday May 18

All of the public access computers at Mesa Public Library will be unavailable all day Monday, May 18 while routine maintenance is performed on these computers.
The computers with Internet access in the Youth Services area also will be closed down. The electronic library catalog, and public wi-fi will still be available for use, along with the homework computers and word processors.

Future Energy Resource Committee Hosts Public Meeting At Fuller Lodge May 19

The Future Energy Resource (FER) Committee appointed by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) in February is charged to examine and recommend:
- a definition of carbon neutrality;
- future energy generation resources; and
- policy as it relates to distributed generation (e.g. rooftop solar) in the County.

State Environment Secretary Discusses $73 Million WIPP Settlement With DOE
