PEEC Earns Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award

On Earth Day, April 22, Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) accepted a Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award for environmental education and outreach.

The Summit Garden Club hosts its May meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 2 at the home of Laurie Hixson, 307 Potrillo Dr., in Pajarito Acres in White Rock.

The meeting will start with a short talk on gophers by “Gopher Andy,” Andy Espinoza. In addition, each May the club meets to assess its activities during the past year and to discuss its projects for the coming year.

Central Avenue Road Work Begins Monday

COUNTY News:

Monday, April 25 Century Club Construction will begin construction warranty work on Central Avenue from Oppenheimer Drive to 20th Street. 

This work includes the replacement of a sidewalk ramp at Ashley Pond Park. The crosswalk will be closed through Wednesday, April 27. Pedestrians are to follow the pedestrian detour to a crosswalk at Bathtub Row.

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 8 p.m. (sunset,) Saturday, May 7 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park.

SANTA FE  The New Mexico Environment Department, along with the cities of Las Cruces and Deming, and Doña Ana and Luna Counties, is advising the citizens of Doña Ana and Luna Counties of the potential risks associated with dust storms.

A combination of weather conditions, features of the natural environment, and human activity can contribute to high levels of windblown dust, or dust storms.
