Unhitched Trailers: Ordinance Changes Take Effect, Enforcement Sweeps Begin

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Code Enforcement Officers will begin assisting Los Alamos Police Department patrols in tagging or towing unhitched trailers parked on streets, highways and public parking areas, under new changes to the County code that took effect Feb. 10.

The County Council recently approved a change in wording to Chapter 38 of the Traffic & Vehicles Section of the Code (Section 38-367), to address inadequate parking regulations that have in the past allowed trailers in these public areas as long as the trailer was hitched to a vehicle for at least 24 hours. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart.

The shock can stop an irregular heart rhythm and allow a normal rhythm to resume following sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is an abrupt loss of heart function.

If it’s not treated within minutes, it quickly leads to death. Most sudden cardiac arrests result from ventricular fibrillation. This is a rapid and unsynchronized heart rhythm starting in the heart’s lower pumping chambers (the ventricles). Read More

Juan Francisco Borrego, 95, a resident of Pojoaque, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, after a short illness. 

Juan was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Teresa Bustos, daughter Carmen Seitz, parents Juan C. Borrego and Lucia Montoya; brother Gilbert Borrego; sisters Trinidad Espinoza, Ascension Barth and Christina Valerio. Juan was born in Santa Cruz, New Mexico in 1920. DOE Secretary Says WIPP Will Reopen In 2016

Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety (CCNS) has announced that U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Ernest Moniz recently said the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) would again dispose of plutonium-contaminated nuclear weapons waste in the deep geologic dump by the end of 2016.

WIPP has been shut down for two years following a truck fire and radiation release that contaminated 22 workers and the underground facility. Moniz made his remarks on February 9th when the Obama Administration released its proposed fiscal year 2017 budget, which includes $266 million for WIPP. Read More
