Letter To The Editor: Something Has Changed And It’s Not The Gun

By White Rock Resident

I’ve written about this subject before, but last night I noticed something that seemed to support my opinion even more.

Last night I watched The Silence of the Lambs (1991). I’ve seen this movie before but there was something I noticed this time. But I did not see one single AR style rifle.

Granted, this isn’t actual footage, it’s a Hollywood movie, but my point is, back in 1991, just a Read More

Cinema Cindy Reviews: Love & Friendship

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB
Los Alamos

“Love and Friendship” is based on an unpublished 1790 novella called “Lady Susan” and written by Jane Austen (later author of Pride and Prejudice) when she was 18 years old.

Austen composed the story through a series of letters; in the movie the texts of these letters serve as the basis for long conversational expositions, thanks to screenwriter Whit Stillman. The action of the film takes place around 1790.

Letter To The Editor: Brexit … Mourning Exit From EU

By Dr. T. DOUGLAS REILLY
Los Alamos

I think I may wear black today (June 24) in mourning for the UK voting to leave the EU.

In early 1975, we left home in New Mexico to move to Italy. We took three months to get there, driving across the US, sailing on a Russian ship, Mikhail Lermontov, to La Hague, and then through France and northern Italy to Ispra. For almost 2.5 years, I worked in the Joint Research Centre of the European Communities (EURATOM).*

In late 1978, we arrived back in Los Alamos after taking three months driving through Europe, mainly France; taking a ferry to England; Read More

An Open Letter To The New Mexico Delegation

By JODY BENSON
Los Alamos

Dear Senator Heinrich, and Representatives Lujan and Lujan Grisham:

Thank you, Sen. Heinrich, for co-sponsoring the “No-Fly-No-Buy Bill” that would restrict people on the terrorist watch list from buying a firearm. You exhibit incredible courage for supporting even a modicum of gun control in this weapons-dominated Congress. Sadly, nowadays, it takes guts for you, our representatives, to support the will of the people over that of lobbyists, and over the high-decibel shouts from the my-rights-over-that-of-the-country-ers.

And about the NFNB Bill: how could Read More
