Los Alamos History Museum
Each year the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum receive thousands of donated paper cranes from around the world. Create YOUR crane to send to Japan at Culture and Collaboration: The Los Alamos/Japan Project, an exhibit on display at the Los Alamos History Museum until July 20. The Los Alamos History Museum will deliver community cranes to Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August. These recent Los Alamos High School graduates competed in the Colorado Kinetic Sculpture Race in June. Their sculpture was The Manhattan Project and had a mad scientist theme. Stephanie Garcia Richard this afternoon at the Los Alamos Daily Post on Central Avenue. The Congresswoman stopped by to visit the paper with Garcia Richard during her tour of ScienceFest activities. She mentioned that she was born in 1959 at Los Alamos Medical Center and attended Canyon School. Her father Buddy Lujan was a dentist in Los Alamos for some 40 years. Bear Sighting In Los Alamos Captured On Video

This bear was spotted at around 7:30 a.m. today in the back yard of a Los Alamos home. Sam Crooks explained that his mother first saw the bear in their backyard while their miniature Australian Shepard dog was there barking. ‘My mom made loud noises, causing the bear to clumsily climb over our fence and trot away into the forest,’ Crooks said. ‘I snatched my camera and followed it, but kept a safe distance. Students Honored With Jim Sims Memorial Engineering Scholarship

Jim Sims, a long time resident of Los Alamos and engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory, was remembered May 30, as the scholarship created in his name was awarded to graduating Los Alamos High School seniors Joshua Dyer and Zoe Challacombe.
 
Sims worked for 34 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a design engineer and leader of project engineering teams. Sims was a gifted Mechanical Engineer with a distinguished career. He was essential to the success of highly visible programs that have enhanced the scientific and engineering reputation of the Laboratory.

The median price of Single Family Home sales saw an increase or $319,000 in the 2nd Quarter of 2017 compared to $300,000 in the same quarter last year.
 
Single Family home sales dipped from 78 in the 2nd Quarter of 2016 to 58 this Quarter. Single Family home sales volumes noted the drop showing $24.8M in 2016 compared to $19.0M for the 2 nd Quarter of 2017. Condo and Townhome sales increased in the 2 nd Quarter of 2017 to 28 units sold compared to 20 units sold in the same Quarter of 2016.

BARBARA ANN (HAYGOOD) JUSTICE Nov. 18, 1933 July 2, 2017

Barbara Ann (Haygood) Justice, aged 83, passed away at her home in White Rock, NM, on July 2nd, 2017. She was with family at her passing.

Barbara was born November 18th, 1933, in Rensselaer, Indiana to Oren and Louise Haygood. She was one of 8 children. She married Dorwin Justice May 21st, 1955 at Lafayette, Indiana. They had two children, Robin (son) and Pamela (daughter). In 1965 the family moved to Albuquerque, and in 1968 they moved to Los Alamos.

Barbara managed convenience stores for 7-11 Company, Brewer Oil, and the San Ildefonso Pueblo. Read More
