Homeownership is part of the American Dream. Owning their own home is among many people’s goals, but accomplishing this aspiration is a whole other story. Affording a mortgage or a down payment on a house can be a major obstacle in the path to homeownership.

Affordable housing seems to be a major

Tonight … Science On Tap: Preparing For The Eclipse

LA CREATIVE DISTRICT News:

A full solar eclipse will pass over much of the United States Friday. It’s a rare opportunity indeed. Join us tonight at Science On Tap, at 5:30 p.m. at UnQuarked in Los Alamos to prepare!

The last such eclipse was in February of 1979 and the next one won’t be until October 2023. What makes these celestial transits special is an opportunity to view the sun’s corona (or its extensive low-density atmosphere) when it is visible. It is only during a total solar eclipse that such investigation is possible.

A Functional But Limited Sheriff’s Office For Los Alamos

By PETE SHEEHEY
Los Alamos County Councilor

The County Council will consider the role of the Sheriff in Los Alamos in a Special Session at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 26 at the Los Alamos Municipal Building.

The Council, not including myself, called an election last November to eliminate the office. After a contentious campaign, Los Alamos voted to keep an elected Sheriff. I believe a majority on Council now accepts that our citizens want a functional Sheriff’s Office. We need to agree on what the Sheriff’s functions will be.

I am proposing

Sheriff Lucero: To The Citizens Of Los Alamos County … Regarding Resolution 17-08

By MARCO V. LUCERO
Los Alamos County Sheriff

As your elected sheriff for the past six and a half years, I have done my best to provide services that hold true to my faith, the Office of the Sheriff and my passion to enhance public safety. With little or no resources provided by local government I have done my best to provide services.

I know that life pits us with those who do not agree with what we try to do. I know that despite our good intentions, some people are going to smear us. I realize that is part of holding public office. I have learned to be tolerant of those who take this route, and I have Read More

Smart Design By Suzette: Living A Simpler Life In A Modern World

By SUZETTE FOX
Los Alamos

Today’s world has many luxuries that are supposed to make life easier.

At times they may, but other times, they make life more complicated. Yes, I need a kitchen remodel, yes a bathroom remodel too. But when I’m feeling stressed out by what I ‘think’ I need, I look inward at what is making me unhappy or anxious. It might not be the remodel at all. It might be a combination of life stressors – observing the effect it has on my family, my finances and my sanity.

To feel a sense of peace and happiness again, I try to
