ALBUQUERQUE ― New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro and 18 Attorneys General sent a letter Wednesday to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos expressing their concern over reports the Department of Education is preparing to roll back important protections for survivors of sexual assault on college campuses and urging her to keep these protections in place.

DOE Renews WIPP CSG Cooperative Agreement

DOE News:

CARLSBAD ― The Department of Energy’s Carlsbad Field Office renewed a cooperative agreement with the Council of State Governments (CSG) – Midwestern Region for oversight of transportation of transuranic waste through Midwestern states to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).

The cooperative agreement is for five-years with an estimated cost of approximately $1.4 million.

Los Alamos County Little League Senior Girls Softball Team Wins Game One At Regional Tournament!

All smiles from Vidalia, La., as the Los Alamos County Little League Senior Girls Softball Team continues their winning ways at the 2017 Regional Softball Tournament. This morning the Los Alamos team played a little league team from Colorado and won 24-0 in five innings. Their next game is 8 p.m., Sunday against a team from Louisiana. Los Alamos Tennis Club Annual Tournament Renamed To Honor Joel M. Williams

TENNIS News:

The Los Alamos Tennis Club is hosting its annual tennis tournament with one change, the name. It is being renamed for the late Joel M. Williams, who was very instrumental in tennis in Los Alamos.

The dates are July 29 and 30. Entrants will get a very good free lunch Saturday, July 29at the Urban Park Pavilion.

The tournament director is Bob Tonelli with Tony Ballard as assistant tournament director.

JJAB Fundraiser Provides School Supplies For LAPS

The Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) is raising funds to provide school supplies for Los Alamos Public School students.

Although still in the heat of summer, it is time to prepare for the upcoming school year. JJAB is asking the community for financial donations to purchase supplies for students at Los Alamos elementary schools, middle school and high school.

Relay For Life Sells Luminaria Bags At Smith’s Sunday

RELAY FOR LIFE News:

Event coordinators for this year’s Relay for Life Los Alamos are selling luminaria bags 1-4 p.m., Sunday at Smith’s Marketplace in Los Alamos.

Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. They can be dedicated to a loved one lost, someone battling cancer or anyone who has overcome the disease.

The luminarias will be decorated with names and sometimes messages to the people they are dedicated to and placed around Ashley Pond during the upcoming Relay for Life Los Alamos event.

FBI: San Ildefonso Pueblo Man Pleads Guilty To Assaulting A Federal Officer

ALBUQUERQUE ― Jordan Roybal, 25, an enrolled member of the San Ildefonso Pueblo who resides in San Felipe Pueblo, pled guilty July 18 in federal court in Albuquerque to assaulting a federal officer.

Roybal was arrested March 3, 2017, on a criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a federal officer. According to the criminal complaint, Roybal was arrested on tribal charges Nov. 21, 2016, after he assaulted a law enforcement officer of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Roybal committed the assault on San Ildefonso Pueblo in Santa Fe County, by resisting

USDA Rural Development State Office Relocating

ALBUQUERQUE ― USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Eric Vigil has announced that the agency will be moving its State Office from 6200 Jefferson St. NE to One Sun Plaza Building, 100 Sun Avenue, NE, Suite 130, Albq., NM 87109.

The State Office move will take place between Monday July 31 and Aug. 4, 2017. During the move, the State Office will be open by appointment only by calling 505.761.4951. The office will re-open for business at its new location at 8 a.m., Monday Aug. 7.
