From 2005 to 2007 I lived in a village in Sonora, Mexico, right on the Sea of Cortez.
 
The village is 70 miles west of Hermosillo. The population is about 7,000, composed mostly of Mexican families who either fish, or do something related to fishing for their income. Stretching west and away from the main village is a seven mile strand of white sand beach. On this beach are larger, primarily seasonal vacation homes for wealthy Mexican families from Hermosillo, as well as some Canadians and some U.S. citizens.

NM Representatives Break Stalemate On Fisher House

SANTA FE  Last week, officials from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Fisher House Foundation, and other stakeholders agreed on final plans to build a Fisher House on the campus of the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque.
 
The agreement provides the framework for construction to proceed on the proposed facility that will house the families of military personnel and veterans while their loved ones are receiving medical care.

New Mexico Film Office Announces HBO’s New Drama Series ‘Succession’ To Film In New Mexico

SANTA FE  New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis announced Thursday that the new HBO Drama series “Succession” will begin principal photography in New Mexico after shooting previous episodes in New York.
 
Production on the episode being filmed in New Mexico will begin in mid-January and run through the end of January.

FBI Seeks Public Aid Regarding Sticky Finger Bandit

FBI News:

The Wheat Ridge and Arvada Police Departments, and the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force are investigating a series of bank robberies in Colorado.

The suspect, who may have traveled to New Mexico, has been dubbed the “Sticky Finger Bandit.” In each robbery, he presented a threatening demand note and fled on foot. The suspect has not yet displayed a weapon in his robberies. In one instance the suspect wore a wig, and in another instance he wrapped adhesive bandages around his fingertips.

Obituary: Tom Capelli Jan. 10, 2018

TOM CAPELLI Jan. 10, 2018

Tom Capelli, at age 85 peacefully passed away Sunday, January 10, 2018 at his son’s home.

He leaves two children, daughter Cindy Capelli, son Steve Capelli, children’s mother Jean Capelli and two grandchildren; Ryan and Nick Capelli and many close friends.

Tom was born in California in 1932 and moved to Los Alamos in 1968 with his family to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He worked at LANL as an engineer from 1968 until he retired and moved up to Chama, New Mexico.

He was quite the inspiration for many boys who played baseball and grew up here in Los Alamos. He Read More

LANB Replacing Drive-Up ATM At 1200 Trinity

LANB News:

Los Alamos National Bank will be replacing one of the drive-up ATMs at its 1200 Trinity Dr., location in Los Alamos. The current ATM has experienced a malfunction, but a new machine has been ordered and will be installed as soon as possible.

The walk up ATM located inside the entrance of the building and the other drive-up ATM at that location are both still available for use.

Fabian Lepsch Tours Fire Station 4

Fabian Lepsch, 2, of Los Alamos and his grandmother had a fantastic visit Monday at Firestation 4. After meeting the fire station chief he was lead on a tour through the station by firefighters Allen and Josh. Both firefighters were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in showing Fabian how fire engines work and what they do. They placed Fabian in the driver seat and he seemed amazed. They introduced Fabian to the large firetruck, the grass firetruck and the ambulance. They told Fabian that they were both firefighters and that Allen is a Paramedic and Josh is an EMT.
