Construction On N.M. 502 Shoulder Begins Tuesday

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities has announced that crews with its electric distribution division will begin construction activities on the north shoulder of N.M. 502, just west of Camino Entrada.

Weather permitting, work may begin Tuesday, Jan. 23 and continue through the month of February.

Working 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, crews will be upgrading equipment in the area to improve electric reliability for the adjacent neighborhoods.

Mysteries At The Museum Episode Features Los Alamos And Manhattan Project On Travel Channel Tonight

At the end of October, the Travel Channel crew visited Los Alamos to film an episode of Mysteries at the Museum at Fuller Lodge.

The episode features Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project.

Since my departure from Los Alamos in November, I have missed so many people that I was blessed to know for the past 44 years that I lived there.

No place we live is perfect, but there are certain elements that seriously detract from the good. Those elected or appointed to government positions should listen to and serve the people in their community. I personally do not miss that faction of Los Alamos County.

New Mexico State Police Respond To Fatal Helicopter Crash Of Five People East Of Raton

NMSP News:

RATON – Around 6 p.m. Jan. 17 in Raton, New Mexico Police Department (RPD) dispatch contacted New Mexico State Police regarding a call of a downed helicopter.

RPD received a 911 call from a victim in the crash who reported the incident. The victim informed dispatch there were six people aboard the helicopter when it crashed. The caller reported three were injured and the other three unaccounted for. The exact location of the crash was uncertain.

Dorothy Barteau “Dee” Wilson was born on May 29, 1926 in Potrerillos, Chile to Dorothy Powell and Harry C. Barteau. Her father Harry was Chief Comptroller there with Anaconda Copper.

Swimmers from the Meiji University out of Tokyo, Japan will host their training camp at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center in Los Alamos. From 2005 to 2007 I lived in a village in Sonora, Mexico, right on the Sea of Cortez.

The village is 70 miles west of Hermosillo. The population is about 7,000, composed mostly of Mexican families who either fish, or do something related to fishing for their income. Stretching west and away from the main village is a seven mile strand of white sand beach. On this beach are larger, primarily seasonal vacation homes for wealthy Mexican families from Hermosillo, as well as some Canadians and some U.S. citizens.
