TUCSON, Ariz. — Amy Mainzer, one of the world’s leading scientists in asteroid detection and planetary defense, will join the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory as a professor of planetary sciences this fall.
 
Mainzer comes to the UA from the Science Division at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she has worked as a senior research scientist specializing in astrophysical instrumentation and infrared astronomy.

Human Trafficking In The United States: How Does New Mexico Measure Up?

New Mexico ranked 28th in the United States in 2018 for the number of active criminal human trafficking cases making their way through federal courts with seven cases.
 
All cases involved sex trafficking. No cases involved labor trafficking.
 
These findings derived from data the Human Trafficking Institute compiled for the 2018 Federal Human Trafficking Report. The Report is a continuation of the Institute’s efforts to provide comprehensive data about every human trafficking case that federal courts handle each year.

Robert (aka Bob, Bobo, Deacon) Jones passed away on June 16, 2019.

Robert was born on August 28, 1949 in Alamogordo, NM to Weems and Jewel Jones. The family moved from Albuquerque to Los Alamos in 1960.

Robert graduated from Los Alamos High School where he was an accomplished athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was a member of the LAHS state champion football team his senior year and received the “Athlete of the Year” Award that same year.

George Taylor was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Massapequa on Long Island when he was 8 years old.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. Cleanup of the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP) gained headway with the completion of demolition of the K-1037 Building recently — the largest and one of the most challenging facilities still standing there. Watch a video of the demolition here.

ALBUQUERQUE Five members of the Syndicato New Mexico prison gang were sentenced to life in prison this week in federal court in Las Cruces after juries convicted them in 2018 of committing murder in aid of racketeering.
 
These defendants were previously charged along with 17 others for murder and other offenses in a superseding indictment. Several of those charged went to trial while others pleaded guilty.
