SFNF: Managers Plan More Activity On Cueva Fire

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – A drying trend and increase in fire behavior have given fire managers on the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) an opportunity to add additional acres to the Cueva Fire by using aerial ignitions to consume unburned fuels within the planning unit.

Crews from New Mexico State Forestry will continue to work on securing the fire perimeter.

Forest Stewards Youth Corps Fall 2019: Fire And Fuels Program Kick-Off

SANTA FE The Forest Stewards Guild’s Forest Stewards Youth Corps (FSYC) Fall Fire and Fuels program kicked-off the 2019 field season with a crew member training.
 
Sixteen FSYC crew members ages, 18 to 25, attended the three-day training Aug. 19-23, at Cottonwood Gulch Foundation’s basecamp in Thoreau, N.M. The two crews are now spend the following 11-weeks working on U.S Forest Service (USFS) lands and learning from USFS specialists.

Police Shooting At Allsup’s In Hobbs Thursday

NMSP News:

HOBBS – The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted Thursday by the Hobbs Police Department (HPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

State Police investigators learned that at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, HPD officers were called to the Allsup’s at 321 Dal Paso for reports of a male individual armed with a gun.

At the Allsup’s, officers encountered Roberto Mata, 46 of Carlsbad armed with a gun.

During the encounter shots were fired by Mata and an HPD officer. Mata was fatally struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Read More
