Deb Haaland announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $295,375 to Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) to enhance and develop the ABQid Seed Fund, which will support a diverse, inclusive population of entrepreneurs and business owners in Central New Mexico.

SFNF Issues Closure Order For Forest Road 376

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a closure order for a segment of Forest Road (FR) 376 to accommodate work on a blocked culvert that poses a threat to public health and safety.

The closure order will be in effect today to April 1, 2020, unless it is rescinded earlier

The culvert is slated for replacement, but recent monsoonal weather patterns and the subsequent runoff and debris could lead to road failure and have made it an immediate public safety issue.

Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA), will be recognized at the Los Alamos County Council meeting Aug. 27 with a proclamation for youth and community development, as the new school year begins.
 
The proclamation helps to highlight the work C’YA does based on the Search-Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets* and building community.
 
C’YA celebrated its 5th birthday in June, but have worked to keep the assets top of mind for 11 years. When funding for the program was discontinued, C’YA was created as a non-profit, to continue the mission.

James Marion Bunch was born April 23, 1934, in Hastings, NE. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2019 at age 85.

After graduating from Hastings High School in 1952, he married Elayne Grothen in 1954 and completed his BA in physics with a math minor at Hastings College in 1956.

FBI: Arson Fires In Naschitti, NM Under Investigation

FBI News:

Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for a series of fires that damaged several buildings in Naschitti, N.M., on the Navajo Nation, this week.

There were no injuries.

The fires, which occurred Aug. 19-21, damaged a church, a convenience store and three vacant houses.

The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety and the San Juan County Fire Department are investigating.

Continuing through the month of October, the Los Alamos Police Department will conduct traffic enforcement, focusing on accident related violations.

Officers also will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and conduct random DWI checkpoints throughout the County during this time frame.
