The Santa Fe Opera Guild will present the next Vivace Book Group 6 p.m. MST Monday, Jan. 9 via Zoom to discuss Richard Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman.
Presenter for the evening is David Hughes, a member of the Wagner Societies of Santa Fe and New York and contributor to the latter’s bi-monthly publication Wagner Notes. He has served as the New York Society’s International Representative since 2019.
The book for the evening is a retelling of The Flying Dutchman by noted Wagner expert, Ruprecht Frieling. Hughes also will reference material that may have influenced Wagner’s story, including an excerpt from The Works of Heinrich Heine — The Memoirs of Herr von Schnabelewopski about a doomed sea captain and the early Romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
The deadline for reservations is Jan. 6, 2023 … all must register and will receive a link on Jan. 9.
