The Los Alamos County Library System is hosting an event at 7 p.m., July 30 on Zoom to discuss Todd Miller’s essay for the Tucson Sentinel: “Flying on Two Wheels: Travel in Coronavirus Lockdown”.
The community is invited to share experiences with travel close to home.
FBI Announces Reward Of Up To $25,000 In Jacqueline Vigil Homicide As Part Of Operation Legend Expansion

FBI News:
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the homicide of Jacqueline Vigil.
Vigil, who was 55 years old at the time of her death, was the mother of two New Mexico State Police Officers.
She was fatally shot in her driveway in Albuquerque, while in her 2006 Cadillac sedan Nov. 19, 2019. Vigil was about to go to the gym.
Nov. 27, 2019, police located and recovered a Jeep they believe was involved in the homicide. The FBI and Albuquerque Police Department are investigating.

Los Alamos County Ice Rink Project Moving Along
Progress being made recently on the Los Alamos County Ice Rink locker rooms. The project includes a new and restroom improvements to the existing building. March 3, the County Council approved a construction contract for $1,430,642 to Contreras Construction and established a total project budget of $1,850,000 – which includes design, contingency, gross receipts tax, special testing, etc. as well as the construction costs. SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 266 additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County remains at 16 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.
Today’s update announces 7 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:
- 91 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 7 new cases in Chaves County
- 2 new cases in Cibola County
- 22 new cases in Curry County
- 26 new cases in Doña Ana County
- 4 new cases in Eddy County
- 2 new cases in Guadalupe County
- 18 new cases in Lea County

The July Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting continues in its electronic format, consistent with the needs of this special time. It will be held at the regular time of 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
As usual, the Mountaineers meeting is held in collaboration with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center. This month, Phil Martin will speak on a climbing expedition to Potrero Chico.

Grey Fox Captured On Video On Barranca Mesa
This grey fox captured on video sniffing around the patio of a home on Barranca Mesa Friday night, has become a frequent visitor there. Adult grey foxes can measure up to 47 inches in length and weigh 6 to 15 pounds. They have coarse, salt and pepper gray hair with black markings on the head, nose and muzzle. …Carbon Free Power Project is a proposed nuclear electric generation facility that would use small modular reactor technology.
Two more meetings are scheduled to provide project status updates on the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) prior to a decision that will be made by the Board of Public Utilities and the County Council on whether Los Alamos continues on to the next phase of project development.
