The cooler temperatures and rainfall of the past week have eased the stress on the trout in Northern New Mexico’s rivers and streams.

Flows are a little better and water temperatures have cooled somewhat to temperatures that trout will find more comfortable.

One great result of the increased precipitation has been the lifting of Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Wednesday (7/29) on Santa Fe National Forest Lands and Carson National Forest Lands.

NPS Pueblo Parks Group Lifting Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Los Alamos, Watrous, Pecos, Jemez Springs – Due to several days of higher humidity and rain, Bandelier National Monument, Fort Union National Monument, Pecos National Historical Park and Valles Caldera National Preserve will lift fire restrictions at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 29.

“Even though the monsoons have begun, we’re still in drought conditions,” said Valles Caldera National Preserve Superintendent Jorge Silva-Bañuelos. “We ask that visitors continue to take appropriate precautions while enjoying our national parks and national forests.”

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 301 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 17 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update announces 7 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:

  • 80 new cases in Bernalillo County

She was at her home with her son Mark, his wife Lori, and granddaughters Kayla and Marissa when she passed.

Home Renewal Program Accepts Applications Until Aug. 31 

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department and the Los Alamos Housing Partnership (LAHP) is still interested in receiving additional applications for consideration for funding under Cycle 5 of the Home Renewal Program.

The application process opened July 1. Residents who income qualify and require financial assistance to make repairs or improvements to their homes are encouraged to apply for this subsidized loan program. Homeowners are not required to make payments unless the home is sold or vacated.

U.S. Attorney Anderson Appoints Denise Billy Missing And Murdered Indigenous Persons Coordinator For New Mexico 

DOJ News:

ALBUQUERQUE – U.S. Attorney John Anderson announced today the appointment of Denise Billy to serve as the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Coordinator for the District of New Mexico.

She will be the first MMIP coordinator under a new Department of Justice (DOJ) initiative.

As the MMIP coordinator, Billy will gather reliable data to identify MMIP cases connected to New Mexico’s 22 Tribal Nations. She also will conduct outreach with tribal communities to assist in the creation and implementation of community action plans.

Traffic Alert: Pavement Patching Begins On Central Thursday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division will begin a Pavement Preservation Project Thursday, July 30 along Central Avenue.

Crews will patch the pavement between 15th Street and Oppenheimer Drive.

In order to limit business and resident disruption, this work has been scheduled to occur at night.

Crews will use a one-lane closure with a flagging operation 6-8 p.m. and beginning at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, Central Avenue will be closed from 15th Street to Oppenheimer Drive.

It is anticipated that this work will be completed in one night.

BLM Rescinds Seasonal Fire Restrictions In New Mexico

SANTA FE — With Increasing moisture and higher humidity statewide, correlating to reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is terminating seasonal fire restrictions in New Mexico enacted by Fire Prevention Order #NM910-20-02.
