STEP UP GALLERY News:

Wednesday, July 5 is the last chance to see more than 60 pieces of art by Michael Andryc at Step Up Gallery in Mesa Public Library. A collection spanning 50 years of acrylic paintings, illustrated manuscripts and giclee prints amazes, shocks and inspires a chuckle from most attendees to the exhibit.

Andryc, an Albuquerque resident, calls his work “Sophisticated Primitive” Contemporary Folk Art Pop. Come and meet his alter-egos: Wolf(Man), Frog, Son of Frog and not the least of which is Andryc’s own Polish Grandma. Each of Andryc’s creations pay tribute to the world of imagination.

I paint figures and narratives to express how I feel about being alive in today’s world. Plus, I like to put in a good word for imagination,” he said.

To view a slide show of art in the exhibit, go to: www.stepupgallery.org/current-exhibit/. Andryc gave a Gallery Talk during the show’s opening reception that explained the meaning behind some of his key pieces. View a video of the talk at https://youtu.be/OB4Dp04jluY. For more information on the artist, visit: www.michaelandryc.com.

The final day of exhibit is July 5. Admission is free.
