Letter To The Editor: Randall Ryti Will Be An Excellent County Councilor

By PETE SHEEHEY
Los Alamos County Councilor

I support Randall Ryti for Los Alamos County Councilor. He came to Los Alamos to build a small business, Neptune and Company, which has thrived. His wife Wendy and he have raised their two children here.

Randall appreciates our unique environment and recreational opportunities, and has actively volunteered to support community groups such as the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

I appreciate the balanced approach to problem solving he has taken as a member (and chair) of the County Transportation Board. Randall

Letter To The Editor: James Robinson Will Serve Us Well As County Councilor

By PETE SHEEHEY
Los Alamos County Councilor

I support James Robinson for Los Alamos County Councilor.

James will be a good representative for the growing younger generation in this town. Having grown up and lived most of his life here, he has an appreciation of many things that both young and old people like about living in Los Alamos, such as the beautiful environment and opportunities for education and recreation.

He is aware of the challenges we face to renew our aging infrastructure and create housing options that meet the needs of single people, families and retired.

Letter To The Editor: Quit Worrying About Who Is On The Other Side

By JOYCE ANDERSON
Los Alamos

Beware of politicians who promise big things, talk about future successes as a a sure thing, and whose surrogates find it necessary to “call the other side out” in opinion pieces.

Neither Lisa Shin or Chris Chandler are perfect, or even good candidates. Both are making promises they cannot and will not keep. Both are standing on platforms of ideals only – but then again aren’t all politicians?

The ideals our chosen candidate espouses will most likely be forgotten when the winner of the race is tossed into the meat grinder that is the New Mexico

Weekly Fishing Report: Oct. 17

By GEORGE MORSE
Sports Editor
Los Alamos Daily Post

The weather turned sharply cooler this past weekend and there was some good precipitation in the form of rain at lower elevations and snow higher up in the mountains.

This should improve the fishing conditions in our lakes and trout should be actively cruising the shallows looking to feed heavily in preparation for winter. The moisture also will benefit the trout in our rivers and streams, raising streamflow levels and lowering water temperatures.

A good example would be the Pecos River from the town of Pecos upstream

Home Country: Clean Your Boots

Home Country
By SLIM RANDLES

Our resident cowboy, Steve, brought us the shocking news: cowpuncher Three-Chord Cortez, that bunkhouse balladeer, plans to study opera, in hopes an aria or three will make him even more attractive to girls during a serenade.

Apparently, singing La Donna Mobile might be more effective than “You don’t know whatlonesome is ‘til you start herding co-o-o-ows” … especially if she doesn’t speak European.

I thought I’d jot down a few opera-watching truths for ol’ T.C. just to help him out.

1. Take off your hat. You can keep jujubes in it if you want.

Letter To The Editor: Worthy Woman

By DICK and NANCY BOUDRIE
Los Alamos

We usually don’t write an opinion letter to the newspaper. After receiving a derogatory flyer in the mail against Christine Chandler, we decided to write an opinion supporting Christine Chandler for the New Mexico House Dist. 43.

Christine and I (Nancy) worked together on two cases at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and I found her excellent in working with the facts and picking out the truth for a fair, legal decision. Christine has always listened, weighed the facts and worked hard for the people of Los Alamos.

As with all community issues, there are always Read More

Nesmith: When Will True Republicans Take A Stand?

By JAMES L. NESMITH
Los Alamos

I fail to understand why the Republican Party of Los Alamos has not repudiated and disavowed Lisa Shin’s candidacy for State House District 43. Her campaign employs some of the most vitriolic, hateful, unethical, shameful, misleading, disgraceful and immoral tactics that I’ve seen in my 72 years.

Her false statements, her misleading and phony “Los Alamos Post” newspaper mailer as well as her most recent mailer (a nearly classic example of morally contaminated and corrupt political chicanery), her lack of knowledge of veteran affairs, her total Read More
