Little Forest Spring Resale March 8

LITTLE FOREST  News:

The annual Little Forest Playschool Spring Resale is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road. There is a discount hour that starts at noon, during which most items are half-price.

The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit preschool. Little Forest at 3880 Villa St., in Los Alamos is a cooperatively-managed preschool for children aged 2-5.

Shoppers can find gently used infant and children’s items such as clothes, footwear, cribs, high chairs, play pens, car seats, strollers and more. There also are toys, games, books and media items. Read More

Members of the Los Alamos Community are invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the rezoning and redevelopment of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) student housing located on 9th street, between Myrtle and Iris streets. Lottery Solvency Bill Passes Senate Finance

NM SENATE News:

SANTA FE—New Mexico’s Lottery Tuition Fund could be a little closer to getting its solvency issue resolved as Senate Bill 347 (SB 347) passed the Senate Finance Committee Monday.

The bill appropriates $11 million from the general fund for fiscal year 2014, appropriates $11.5 million in general fund revenues for fiscal year 2015, and in fiscal year 2016 creates a distribution from the general fund portion of revenues resulting from the liquor excise tax.

Skandera Fails to Receive Confirmation Recommendation

SANTA FE–Hanna Skandera failed to receive a favorable recommendation for confirmation as New Mexico’s Public Education Department Secretary in a Senate Rules Committee hearing today.

A motion for “No Recommendation” stalled in a 5-5 vote. A motion to recommend her confirmation to the full Senate failed on a 4-6 vote. Another motion to reject her confirmation was made but failed to receive a second. The effect of the tie vote means that the full Senate will not consider her nomination for confirmation.

UNM-LA to Offer Free $tart $mart Salary Negotiation Workshop

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) is hosting $tart $mart, an interactive salary negotiation workshop, 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 28, in the Lecture Hall 230 on the UNM-LA campus.

The free workshop is open to all students, particularly women, but anyone interested in sharpening their salary negotiating skills is welcome to attend.
