Council Assesses Housing & Economic Development Efforts

So how are things looking for Los Alamos’ housing and economy? Great, according to County officials.

Revised Cowboy Breakfast Schedule For July & August

Sheriff’s Posse News:

The monthly Cowboy Breakfast schedule at the Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Posse Lodge is different for July and August this year.

Revised Schedule:

          • The Cowboy Breakfast will not be held in July; and
          • The August breakfast will be held Aug. 10 (the second Sunday) rather than the usual first Sunday, due to the new rodeo schedule.

The Sheriff’s Posse will be serving the Cowboy dinner 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, followed 7-9 p.m. with a dance as part of Rodeo Weekend.

County To Hold Workshop For Home-Based Businesses

Los Alamos County Community Development Department is hosting a free public workshop titled “Home Business Basics: Permits, Planning & Pathways to Growth.” The workshop is designed to help aspiring and current home-based business owners navigate the steps to get started and stay compliant.

ACT Announces New On-Demand Service App, MyRide

COUNTY News:

Atomic City Transit (ACT) is pleased to announce a new, convenient way to book on-demand bus rides: MyRide. MyRide is a free app that Los Alamos citizens can use to request free door-to-door service. Users can make same-day requests, and rides are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to calling to request a ride, ACT Assist users now have the option to book paratransit service through MyRide too.

Upcoming Public Tours Of Los Alamos County’s Water Production Infrastructure

Three public tours of Los Alamos County’s water production infrastructure are scheduled for the second Fridays in July, August and September. The tours are free but space is limited! Tickets are available at ladpu.com/well.

LAPD Asks Public’s Assistance Locating Missing Juvenile

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) received a call at approximately 9:44 a.m. today, July 1, reporting a missing juvenile, Sawyer Thronas, 11, of Los Alamos.

Thronas was reported last seen around 9 a.m. today on Woodland Road.

LAPD was provided with the following description of Thronas:

          • 11-year-old-female;
          • 5’4” tall;
          • Hispanic; and
          • Brown hair, with a possible blue tint.

Thronas was last seen wearing:

  • Dark gray oversized shirt;
  • Jeans; and
  • Black Converse-style shoes.

Step Up Gallery Announces Call For Art: Self Portraits

Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library has put out a Call for Art for a very special exhibit it is planning. It’s a show of self-portraits. The show name is “Projection and Confession: Self-Portraits” and runs Sept. 18 to Oct. 18.

Oversized Crane Transport On NM502 Through Downtown To Los Alamos Ice Rink July 2

COUNTY News:

As part of the project to install a new chiller at the Los Alamos Ice Rink, a 140-ton crane and one tractor-trailer will be traveling through Downtown Los Alamos on route to the Ice Rink on West Road between 9 a.m. and noon, Wednesday July 2.

Due to its weight the crane and the tractor-trailer cannot cross the Omega Bridge and therefore will be traveling up the Main Hill on NM502/East Rd, then through Trinity Dr. to Diamond Dr. before turning onto West Rd. to the Ice Rink. If needed, the Los Alamos Police Department will provide escorts to the crane on its way up NM502 and travel through downtown. Read More

Upcoming Social Services Office Hours At The Library

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Social Services Division is offering convenient evening hours at the Mesa Public Library to better assist people that may not be able to meet during regular business hours.

Community members who need assistance with housing services, utility payments, food instability, or connections to other resources in the county are encouraged to stop by for a one-on-one meeting to learn how Social Services may be able to help.

Status Of County Goals & Objectives Perfomance Updates

COUNTY News:

Residents interested in the status of County goals and objectives will be pleased to learn that the Los Alamos County Performance Metrics Dashboard has been updated and is available online. 

The dashboard tracks the County departments’ progress of the five goals identified in the 2025 Strategic Leadership Plan: Quality Governance, Operational Excellence, Economic Vitality, Quality of Life and Environmental Stewardship, as well as the 22 objectives.
