QUALITY NEW MEXICO News:
Quality New Mexico is accepting applications for the Board of Examiners through May 31.
Examiners are volunteers who, working in teams, review applications submitted to the New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards program, administered by Quality New Mexico.
The awards program recognizes New Mexico business, government, education, health care and nonprofit organizations for their commitment, progress, or achievement in performance excellence.

Bandelier Extends Public Comment Period

Bandelier National Monument has extended the public comment period on the management of the Tsankawi Unit to June 15.
Earlier this month, the park hosted two public meetings on the planning process.
They invited everyone who is interested in the future of Tsankawi to provide input on how best to manage the cultural and natural resources found there.
The Tsankawi Unit is an 826-acre area that is geographically separate from the main portion of Bandelier National Monument.

State’s Chief Medical Officer Abruptly Resigns

The Los Alamos Daily Post contacted Erin J. Bouquin, MD of Los Alamos after learning that she suddenly resigned her new position as Chief Medical Officer of the New Mexico Department of Health under what appear to be curious circumstances.
Bouquin worked for Cabinet Secretary Catherine Torres who last Monday asked her to do an interview with KOAT Channel 7 for a story on teens engaging in unprotected sex, she said.
Bouquin taped the interview Wednesday morning in Albuquerque.

Active Duty U.S. Military Offered Free Entrance to All National Parks Beginning Saturday

The National Park Service has announced that on Saturday May 19, which is Armed Forces Day, it will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to all 397
National Park Service areas for active duty military members and their dependents.
This military version of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass also permits free entrance to sites managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Forest Service.
