WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, has issued the following statement after the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) in its ruling in Brackeen v. Bernhardt and overturned a 2018 decision from the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Texas, which wrongly struck down key provisions of ICWA.
In January, Udall filed a bipartisan, bicameral amicus brief in the 5th Circuit in support of the constitutionality of ICWA.

RSF News:Reporters Without Borders (RSF) urges the Hong Kong authorities to protect journalists covering protests against violence by the police and the mobs.
As four more journalists were assaulted in the North Point area Sunday Aug. 11, RSF calls on the Hong Kong authorities to put an end to the violence against the press.
In the past two months, journalists covering the anti-extradition bill protests were increasingly the victim of intimidation and physical abuse by the police as well as pro-Beijing mobs.

LAFD News:The Los Alamos Fire Department along with New Mexico Resuscitation Academy (RA) has announced that they are conducting two consecutive one-day Resuscitation Academies.
These full day RAs are Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave. in Santa Fe.

ABIQUIU LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, announced today that effective immediately the Cerrito Day-Use Recreation Area, including the boat ramp and the swim beach, are closed after tests showed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom in the reservoir.
The closure will last until levels no longer pose an increased threat to humans and animals.
Closure signs are posted at the lake’s public access points.
