Fall Festivals Around New Mexico

SANTA FE ― The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta may be the most well known, but fall is full of fairs and festivals all across New Mexico.

The New Mexico Tourism Department has created a roundup of some of the best fall events happening this season. From harvest fests to Oktoberfests, there is something for everyone in all four corners of the state.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke Sept. 21 announced that $1,103,088 will be distributed to the state of New Mexico for outdoor recreation and conservation projects from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which is funded through offshore oil and gas leasing.

This was part of $94.3 million distributed across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. These funds are awarded through federal matching grants that leverage public and private

NORAD: U.S. Sends Search And Rescue Teams In Response To Mexico Earthquake

NORAD News:

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. ― At the request of the Mexican government, a U.S. Urban Search and Rescue team arrived in Mexico to support search and rescue efforts after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the country.

USAID has deployed USAR internationally approximately 16 times since 1988, most recently for the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami.

State Police Arrest Drunk Driver After School Bus Hit-and-Run Crash

ESPANOLA ― Around 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20, the New Mexico State Police was notified of a hit-and-run crash in La Mesilla involving a school bus from the Espanola Public Schools.

The collision occurred on N.M. 399 near County Road 110. When officers arrived on scene they learned the school bus was occupied by eight middle school and high school students and the bus driver. No injuries were reported and the bus sustained minor damage to the rear bumper.

FBI: Man In Black Long-Sleeve T-Shirt Robs Albuquerque Bank

A man wearing a black long-sleeve T-shirt robbed an Albuquerque bank Friday, Sept. 15.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 30s, approximately 5’4” tall, with a slender build, short cropped hair, and an unshaven face. He wore a black long-sleeve T-shirt and blue jeans.

At approximately 10:52 a.m., the suspect entered Bank of the West, located at 500 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue NE. He presented a demand note to a teller, who handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect. The suspect was last seen walking south on Walter
