APA: Majority Of Adults Stressed By Mass Shootings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A large majority of adults in the United States are stressed by mass shootings, and a third of U.S. adults say that fear of mass shootings stops them from going to certain places and events, according to a new survey on stress and mass shootings by the American Psychological Association.

Cueva Fire Completes Firing Operations, Objectives

SANTA FE ― Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) said Friday objectives for the Cueva Fire have been successfully met with Thursday’s firing operations. Ignitions have ceased, and no future growth is expected outside the approximately 1,000-acre planning area.
 
Crews will continue to check containment lines, assess archaeological sites within the planning area and establish points to proactively address any unexpected growth outside the planning area.

SANTA FE – Marco Grajeda, a public servant with professional and family ties along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico Border, has been appointed to head the New Mexico Border Authority, Economic Development Department Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said Friday.
 
Grajeda was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and has lived in El Paso and Southern New Mexico. Grajeda, a New Mexico State University graduate, grew up in a bilingual, bicultural household and often travels between the United States and Mexico to visit family and friends and to work.

Santa Fe – New Mexico Department of Transportation District Five and Star Paving Company continue roadway reconstruction on N.M. 502 from mile post 1.257 to mile post 2.053 in Los Alamos.

Starting Monday Aug. 19 – N.M. 502 (Trinity Drive) will be CLOSED between DP Road and Central Avenue.

The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day for the next two weeks. The closure is necessary to facilitate the crossing of the following utilities:

  • 8” water line;
  • 10” sewer line;
  • 4” gas line;
  • 12” water line; and
  • electrical and communication

New Mexico Unemployment Rate In July 4.9 Percent

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in July 2019, unchanged from June 2019 and up from 4.8 percent in the previous year.

The national unemployment rate in July was 3.7 percent, unchanged from June 2019 and down from 3.9 percent in July 2018.

Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 21,700 jobs, or 2.6 percent, between July 2018 and July 2019. Large gains came from both the public and the private sector.
