SANTA FE Four students at three Northern New Mexico schools won cash awards for excellence in researching and writing a report on wildlife species that are threatened or endangered, and are listed as Species of Greatest Conservation Need in New Mexico.

Rotary: Veteran Mike Katko On The Poetry Of War

Veteran and Los Alamos Rotarian Mike Katko recently presented a program at the Rotary Club of Los Alamos in honor of Memorial Day. Entitled ‘The Poetry of War’, Katko read poetry inspired by the tragedy of battlefields of the Civil War, the World Wars and Vietnam. Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympics

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department will be running the torch to Jemez Springs to raise money and awareness for Special Olympic athletes in Los Alamos and New Mexico.

This is the 51st year of Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run that occurs each May.

LAPD will begin shorlty after 7 a.m. Thursday running the torch about 42 milesto Jemez Springs. There will be minor traffic delays at about 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Trinity Drive and West Jemez Road as runners mke their way out of Los Alamos. Read More

NMSP is bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising. These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.
