Los Alamos High School senior Ben Rees was among the New Mexico-based athletes who were honored with a merit-based scholarship at the state basketball tournament this past weekend.

Rees, who served as captain on both the boys’ soccer team and hockey team this year, was selected to receive the “Compete with Class” scholarship presented by the New Mexico National Guard.

Scenes From Espanola Sun Devils State Championship Game Against Belen Eagles

The Espanola Sun Devils progressed all the way to the State Championship game for class 5A played at Dream Style Arena aka The Pit Saturday night to meet the Belen Eagles. Hilltopper Baseball Falls To Hope Christian Huskies

The Hilltopper baseball team played the second home game of the new season Thursday at Bomber Field on North Mesa. This time they played the Hope Christian Huskies, a premier class 4a team from Albuquerque.  For the first five innings the teams played more or less even until the Huskies hit a two-run home run. That opened a gap that the Toppers were unable to close and lost the contest 1-5. Jacob Rutten was the lead off pitcher. He had nine strikeouts before being relieved at the end of the fifth inning.
