Heinrich Leads Legislation To Combat Syphilis Epidemic
U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Roger Wicker (R- Miss.) introduced the Maternal and Infant Syphilis Prevention Act.
This is legislation to protect pregnant mothers and infants by requiring the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary to issue guidance to states on best practices for screening and treatment of congenital syphilis under Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Carole was born November 2, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gordon “Buddy” and Myrtle Johnson. Carole was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1957.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19 through Thursday, Nov. 21, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) will conduct mission-critical experiments during the day that may result in loud noises being heard on and off Lab property.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Tuesday released school ratings for the 2023-2024 school year, highlighting important gains for New Mexico’s schools.

First-Time College Enrollment In New Mexico Up 9%

SANTA FE — Freshman college enrollment continues to rise in New Mexico, the Higher Education Department announced Wednesday.
First-time enrollment in colleges and universities has risen 9.2 percent statewide, according to data for the fall 2024 semester.
This is yet another year-over-year increase in first-time, full-time college participation in New Mexico; meanwhile, the national trend is heading in the opposite direction.
According to preliminary fall semester data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, freshman enrollment in 2024 is down 5 percent. Read More
