The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is excited to offer a monthly Bird Walk at Los Luceros, held on the first Sunday of each month from April through October. These free outings invite birders of all experience levels to explore the rich riparian habitat of Los Luceros Historic Site alongside knowledgeable local guides.

This nonvenomous gopher snake was found March 30 by a water spigot. It hatched out late last year and will be relocated to a safe backyard within the appropriate relocation range—1/8 to 1/4 of a mile. Too far a distance and not the same ecosystem or environment could mean death for the snake.

Earth Day Event Celebrates Ancestral Roots At Jemez Historic Site April 18

JEMEZ SPRINGS — A special Earth Day celebration will be held from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Jemez Historic Site in honor of Indigenous roots to the land. The celebration includes a hike, traditional children’s games, an “artifact” dig, pottery demonstrations, bread baking in the horno, or outdoor adobe oven, and Native arts and crafts vendors.

Natural Gas Rate Change Addresses Operational Costs

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is proposing changes to its natural gas rate intended to close the gap between budgeted operational costs and the revenues that cover those costs.
An introduction of the proposed rate ordinance will be presented at the Los Alamos Board of Public Utilities (BPU) work session at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, in Council Chambers at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building as well as online via Zoom. ALBUQUERQUE — A federal grand jury has indicted a U.S. Border Patrol agent for allegedly assaulting a handcuffed detainee and later concealing evidence to obstruct an investigation.
According to court records, May 22, 2023, Eduardo Prat, 40, allegedly strangled John Doe while performing his official duties as a Border Patrol agent in Doña Ana County, N.M. John Doe was handcuffed at the time of the alleged assault.

It is with great sorrow we mourn the passing of Dr. Ronald “Ron” Crater Jones, 88, following complications of a fall. He was surrounded by family in his final moments.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1937 to Thomas and Maureen (née Crater), Jones was a 1955 graduate of Highland High School. It was there that he met his future wife, Mada Swayze, in orchestra class. They married in 1957.
