STATE News:

Los Alamos resident Victoria Rygh of Honduras will be among the 68 New Mexico residents representing 29 countries who will become U.S. citizens today in Albuquerque

Rygh has lived in Los Alamos for five years and works at Los Alamos Medical Center.

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall of New Mexico will deliver the keynote address for the naturalization ceremony. The ceremony, to be held at the South Broadway Cultural Center, will celebrate the naturalization of these citizens – the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements

Fall is in the air and Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos will be hosting its fall Pancake Breakfast for the public 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 in the Betty Ehart Senior Center. 

The pancake breakfast is a long standing Kiwanian tradition and this year will coincide with the Arts and Craft Fair later Saturday afternoon.

Prizewinning Student Film Shows Sunday

Samantha Filer, a 17-year-old homeschooled student from Jemez Springs, received the Best of Festival Award in the statewide Desert Light Film Festival. Filer produced, edited and directed “The Sword of Arundel,” a 56-minute drama with a Lord of the Rings feel.

The film will be shown at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Reel Deal Theater at 2551 Central Ave. in Los Alamos.

The Hive will hold its normal brown-bag networking lunch starting at about 11:30 a.m. today (late is never a problem) at the Hive, 134 N.M. 4.
