JILL A. MAYO (KAVE) May 31, 1968Sept. 22, 2014

Jill Mayo of Espanola, N.M. passed away on September 22, 2014 at the age of 46. She was born in Allentown, Pa. on May 31, 1968.

A longtime resident of Los Alamos, she worked as an accountant.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gilda M Kave. She is survived by her father, Elmer C. Kave, her sister Gina Smith, her brothers Anthony Kave and Dominic Kave, her children, Alissa Dison and Kailee Mayo, and her beloved grandchildren, Shana and Ethan Wallington.

VFW Hosts Steak Dinner/Horseshoe Tournament Saturday

VFW News:

The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host a Steak Dinner Fundraiser and Horseshoe Tournament Saturday at the VFW (across Trinity Drive from Sonic).

The Horseshoe Tournament is at 1 p.m. and prizes will be awarded.

Dinner is 4-8 p.m. and consists of ribeye steak, baked potato, corn on the cob, coleslaw and dessert. The cost is $16 per person. Hotdog plates for kids are $5.

9/27 Fee Free Day – National Public Lands Day. One of the Fee-Free Days for 2014 – visitors are welcome at all National Park Service areas nationwide with no entrance fees today (camping and other fees are still collected). The bookstore has a 15 percent discount on all items, and the gift shop will have specials as well. The next Fee-Free Day will be Veterans Day, Nov. 11; it is the last of the seven in 2014.

In winter at night, a flashlight beam is enough to guide the little ducks to the warm Hen House. Lucy goose doesn’t object when they dash through the door and between her legs—probably because she raised them. Lucy gives the chickens some trouble in summer, but Gwendolyn has learned to avoid Lucy, and the hen hops up onto the roost when the goose is not being bossy.

Lucy and Bobbi, the geese, also follow the beam of light into the Hen House for the night. They are the only ones who stay up outside until someone gets there. Read More

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) recently completed an important test for the W88 ALT 370, an alteration to replace the Arming, Fuzing and Firing assembly of the W88-0/Mk 5, a warhead in its third decade of life.

The Critical Radar Arming and Fuzing Test (CRAFT), flown this summer, was designed to test the new joint Air Force and Navy radar in the W88 ALT 370. Udall Encourages New Mexicans To Participate In National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Tom Udall, D-NM, encourages New Mexicans to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day event this Saturday, Sep. 27 and turn in unused or expired medication at designated locations in their communities – dropoff booth in Los Alamos is in the parking lot at LAMC.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) wants to remind political campaigns about the public safety issue regarding placing campaign signs and posters in state highway right-of-ways.
