Jeep Explodes In Española

PUBLIC SAFETY News:

A Jeep exploded at approximately 10:17 a.m. today on Paseo De Onate, in front of Cooks True Value store in Española. The explosion rattled windows for more than a mile around the scene. Unconfirmed reports indicate two individuals were taken to the hospital.

At the time of the initial explosion, police and emergency vehicles were already on their way, indicating that the vehicle had stopped and an emergency call had been placed prior to the first explosion. Read More

Paul Kraemer passed away on March 24th, 2016 after a full and productive life.

Paul was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Huldah and E.O Kraemer on March 19, 1930. He earned a Doctorate in Public Health from Tulane University, and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Wistar Institute, a biomedical Center focusing on cancer research and vaccine development.

He was recruited by Wright Langham for his training in cancer research to be a part of a new Cell and Molecular Biology group in H-4 in 1964. He retired from LANL in 1995. Paul published more than 90 Read More

County Hosts Queen’s Court Competition May 7

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the Queen’s Court Competition Saturday, May 7 to determine the Los Alamos County Fair and Rodeo queen, princess and sweetheart.

Requirements:  

  • Candidate must be a Los Alamos County resident or attend Los Alamos Public Schools and provide a report card;
  • Queen Contestants (Ages 17-25);
  • Princess Contestants (Ages 14-16);

Boutique Air Terminates Contract With County

Los Alamos County Airport Manager David Ploeger announced today that he received a letter Thursday evening from Shawn Simpson, CEO of Boutique Air, terminating Boutique’s contract with the County to provide air service from Los Alamos to Albuquerque.

Boutique and the County entered into a contract last November to provide three flights a day between the Los Alamos airport (LAM) and Albuquerque Sunport (ABQ).

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest hope to take advantage of warmer weather in May 2016 to conduct the Mesitas prescribed burn on the Española Ranger District.
