PEEC News:

Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is bringing two great storytellers back to the Los Alamos Nature Center at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, to light up one’s imagination and tell stories about spring.

With master storytellers Teralene (Terry) Foxx and Kimberly Gotches as guides, children and adults will enjoy activities and stories about plants and elements of the earth. This is a free event.

Foxx is known as an ecologist and storyteller, who uses storytelling in schools, churches and environmental settings. She teaches classes in journaling, plant identification and art technique’s to both children and adults. To become a master storyteller, she completed a four-year apprenticeship in storytelling from the School of Sacred Storytelling and traveled to several countries and around the U.S.

She has been a presenter at the National Storytelling Network Conference and other venues including Nature Odyssey, PEEC’s summer camp.

Gotches is a former youth services librarian from Chicagoland. She has nearly 10 years of experience telling stories to children of all ages at libraries, daycare centers, and schools. Before that, she dedicated herself to older adults as a Longterm Care Case manager, leading original storytelling, improvisation and writing workshops.

A winner of the Intergeneration 2013 Storytelling Contest, Gotches tells folktales with ageless themes as well as personal stories that celebrate the powerful benefits of intergenerational relationships. She draws from course work in creative writing, acting, movement/dance, expressive art therapy, and improvisation to offer dynamic stories and inspire interaction with the audience.

The Los Alamos Nature Center is at 2600 Canyon Road. No registration is required. For more information about this and other PEEC programs, visit here, email programs@peecnature.org or call 505.662.0460.
