Heather Altherr and Jacques Pienaar were married Dec. 30, 2017 at the historic Northwards Mansion in Johannesburg, South Africa. The bride is the daughter of Michael and Michele Altherr of Los Alamos. The groom is the son of Alwyn and Elsabe Pienaar of Hartbeespoort, South Africa. The wedding was officiated by Reverend Werner Venter in both Afrikaans and English. The couple’s friend Kasia Kugay performed the song for the ceremony, ‘Wildflowers’ by Tom Petty and the mother of the bride read a passage from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières. In attendance for the bride were Forest Altherr of Los Alamos and Amie Fletcher of Zambia. In attendance for the groom were Steven Terblanche of South Africa and Bradley Reid of Malawi. The bride and groom met in Zambia four years ago where Altherr was working in forest conservation and Pienaar was working as a pilot. They went on many adventures and their two hearts became one. One year ago Pienaar proposed on a hot air balloon ride high above the Namib Desert and Altherr said yes. The two celebrated their union with a honeymoon on Hout’s Bay near Cape Town, South Africa.
