Medio Fire Burns 3,773 Acres, 90 Percent Contained 

SFNF News:

This morning the Southwest Area Type 2 Incident Management Team 4 transferred command of the Medio Fire on the Rio en Medio Trail in the Española Ranger District back to the Santa Fe National Forest, led by Type 4 Incident Commander John Armstrong.

Aerial observation confirms that pockets of fuel in the interior continue to burn, putting out visible smoke but with limited potential to spread. Containment lines around the fire’s perimeter continue to hold.

CARLSBAD — A project at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) has reached an early milestone as crews embark on a new phase to excavate a new utility shaft — an EM 2020 priority — located west of the WIPP plant.

County Council To Consider Property Tax Rates Tuesday

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council will consider property tax rates at its Tuesday evening meeting.

Tax rates are calculated by the State’s Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) pursuant to the local Assessor’s Office annual valuation report.

In accordance with the Property Tax Code, property tax rates are calculated for all governmental units within the County that have imposed a tax on property. (The County, Public Schools, and UNM-LA, as well as the state.)

Obituary: Helene Suydam 1919 – 2020

In the early morning hours of Aug. 3, 2020, Los Alamos lost a revered resident. Helen Suydam passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100.

Helene was born in 1919 to William Herzberg and Arilla Starkey in Philadelphia, PA. Her childhood was spent in Honolulu, San Diego, and the Panama Canal Zone as her father was transferred to different Navy assignments.

FBI: Ruidoso Officer Charged With Emailing Child Porn

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Det. Christopher Bryant, 46, of the Ruidoso Police Department made an initial appearance in Federal Court in Las Cruces Aug. 27 on charges of transportation of child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint, Bryant committed these offenses between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17 in Lincoln County.

He allegedly found child pornography on the internet and took screenshots of three images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Bryant, who is a detective for the Ruidoso Police Department, allegedly sent the images to himself by email.

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a revised executive order today amending the mandatory quarantine for individuals arriving into the state of New Mexico.

The revised executive order exempts travelers and residents arriving from states with lower COVID-positivity rates while retaining the quarantine requirement for those arriving from high-risk states.
