The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) annual Arts and Crafts Fair is underway until 4 p.m. today on the lawn at Fuller Lodge. This is LAAC’s 50th year of putting on this fair and this year there are about 75 vendors participating. In addition to supporting the vendors at the fair, participants can purchase a 50th anniversary tote bag from LAAC for $5 and purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a sculpture donated to the organization by artist Greg Gowen. The softball fields at Overlook Park in White Rock have been a long-time staple at the park.
“The main part of it is well over 20 years old,” Los Alamos County Park Superintendent Jeff Humpton said. “In all that time there hasn’t been any major improvements save for removing and replacing the soil in the infield and replacing the fencing at the backstop and dugout.”

Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone has released crime statistics for the first quarter of 2017, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), rape, robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category.

The Los Alamos County budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 was approved although not unanimously. On April 25, the budget was passed 5-2 with Council Chair David Izraelevitz and Councilor Antonio Maggiore casting the opposing votes.

Police Arrest Former Jailer Dustin J. Bingham

A former Los Alamos Police Department Detention Officer was arrested Wednesday and charged with eight counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor.
Dustin J. Bingham was arraigned before Judge Pat Casados today in Los Alamos Magistrate Court.
Bingham worked for LAPD from September 2012 to April 2015. He also served as a Santa Fe Sheriff’s Deputy from April 2015 until he resigned in February. The alleged crimes occurred between November 2015 and April 2017, several months after his employment at LAPD ended.
