Los Alamos Choirs & NJROTC Pumpkin Patch Is Open!

More than 2,700 pumpkins are available to the community starting today in the field near the Canyon Complex. The Los Alamos Choirs & NJROTC are partnering on this Pumpkin Patch fundraising event and will split the proceeds to help pay for competitions and trips, such as taking the choirs to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall or the NJROTC cadets to San Diego to see the Navy firsthand. High Desert Winds Santa Fe Presents ‘Inspirations!’ Nov. 3

HDWSF News: 

The High Desert Winds Santa Fe (HDWSF) presents its first concert of the season, “Inspirations!” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at St. Francis Auditorium in the New Mexico Museum of Art, 107 Palace Ave. in Santa Fe.

Under the baton of HDWSF founder Kurt Carr, the performance will feature the music of contemporary wind ensemble composers from the mid 20th century to today.

The HDWSF will present the world premiere of “Weight of an Infinite Sky”, a 2023 composition by band member Andrew Zinkham.

Admission is free with donations gratefully accepted.

Daily Postcard: Saturday, Oct. 12 was Cornell University’s Global Big Day, challenging birders worldwide to report all the birds they could find. That citizen-science project makes a global snapshot of biodiversity, adding to the millions of observations in Cornell’s eBird ornithology database. Twenty-three birders in Los Alamos found at least 61 species Saturday, with reports still rolling in. Rarely Seen Kentucky Warbler Spotted On Reservoir Road

This very rare bird for the local area, a Kentucky Warbler, was spotted Saturday and again this morning on Reservoir Road. The LAPL is starting its 2024-2025 season on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and we are looking for players who would be willing to play as substitutes for our regular team players if needed.

Daily Postcard: Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is now visible with the naked eye, in the west, just to the left of where the sunsets, after sunset. Tonight it was visible between 7-7:30 p.m. in White Rock. Tomorrow it will be a little bit higher in the evening sky. The tail is also much longer now. Pajarito’s 2024 Oktoberfest Set To Celebrate Autumn With Local Breweries And Live Entertainment Oct. 19

Pajarito announces its second annual Oktoberfest scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024. This year’s festival will feature local breweries, including Bathtub Row Brewery, Boxing Bear Brewery and La Cumbre Brewery, offering a variety of craft beers that embody the essence of fall.

The festivities will commence at noon with live music performances from Eryn Bent followed by Sunbender. Admission for beer drinkers is $25.

2024 Los Alamos Holiday Lights Parade Is On!

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County, in partnership with Los Alamos MainStreet and the Creative District, announced today that the 2024 Holiday Lights Parade is on and will take place 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, during the WinterFest weekend.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Winter Brilliance”.

Registration for parade participants is now open at Eventbrite and closes at noon Nov. 27.
