SANTA FE — A quorum of the State Game Commission will be in attendance at the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) 2026 Summer Meeting being held May 31-June 5 in Boise, Idaho.
Although agency business may be discussed, no final action will be taken by the State Game Commission. The purpose of this event is not to formulate public policy or take any action within the authority of the State Game Commission.

NM Supreme Court Invalidates Man’s Convictions For Killing When He Was A Teenager
COURT News:
SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court today vacated the second-degree murder and evidence tampering convictions of a Valencia County man, Brandon Villalobos, for a killing that occurred when he was a teenager.
The Court unanimously concluded that Villalobos was denied his constitutional right to a speedy trial. He spent nearly six years in custody awaiting trial after his arrest in 2014 for the beating death of a 12-year-old friend, who was identified in the opinion by his initials, A.M. The Court reversed a decision of the state Court of Appeals that affirmed Villalobos’ convictions. Read More

A recent headline tells us that New Mexico lost 2,700 federal jobs between March 2025 and March 2026. It’s actually worse than that.
Late last year the number of unemployed federal employees hit 2,900 and stayed at that level for months, pushing up our unemployment rate.
I spent years at newspapers where we reported – and lamented – the loss of even 100 jobs in this state. These numbers are breathtaking on a lot of levels.
