CHURCH News:

Two children from the La Vista Church of the Nazarene in White Rock, traveled to San Diego, Calif., to compete on the New Mexico All Star Bible Quiz Teams.

The three New Mexico teams competed May 16 at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, against 20 other teams from California, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nev.

Sienna Granillo, 8, and Ray Gallegos, 11, earned their spots by memorizing 20 verses from the Bible and by scoring well against more than 100 children at the New Mexico District meet in Albuquerque. Granillo and another competitor were named Quizzers of the Year—having tied—with the highest season scores in the state at that event.

The quizzing program is designed to give children an in depth knowledge of the Bible. Children who completed the Quizzing program this year will have studied and been quizzed on the entire book of Exodus. Coach Trina Granillo says that, “Children’s Quizzing is the best program I have ever seen for teaching children what the Bible says. Every child who completes a season will have a working knowledge of that book from the Bible.”

Bible Quizzing is from September to May of each year and is open to all children from ages 5 to completing fifth grade. The 2015/2016 quizzing season will focus on the books of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. Trina Granillo prepares the children from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesdays at the La Vista Church at 15 Grand Canyon Dr.
