Want to help kids get outside? There will be an informational meeting about The Big Outdoors, a new program organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Los Alamos Nature Center.
The Big Outdoors will give adults concerned about children’s disconnect from nature a chance to make a difference in a deeply personal way.
BBBS has a long waiting list, especially for boys wanting a Big. PEEC knows there are many outdoors-oriented men and women in our community who might want to dedicate 6 to 8 hours a month to taking a child outside to hike, snowshoe, ski, and enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer. That’s why the two organizations have partnered up to develop this one-on-one mentoring program focused entirely on the outdoors.
For those who are interested in The Big Outdoors program, attend the meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 and bring questions. PEEC and BBBS staff will be present to answer questions and share information about the program.
