MESA PUBLIC LIBRARY News:
September is Arts and Culture Month in Los Alamos and Mesa Public Library is pleased to show a film performance of Beowulf, the heroic, epic poem dated from between 800-1100, in the original Anglo Saxon with modern English subtitles featuring Benjamin Bagby.
This special event is part of the regular library program, Poetry Gatherings, hosted by local poet and UNM LA teacher, Jane Lin, which meets the second Thursday of each month.
Beowulf will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 in the Upstairs Rotunda at Mesa Public Library.
This description from David Schiferl, local poet and Little Theater volunteer, who suggested this program:
“This is a rare opportunity to hear this classic epic in the original Old English performed by Benjamin Bagby who also adds richness to the performance with his accompaniment on the Anglo Saxon harp. This is for all who love to hear the English of our ancestors and the ancient chronicle of epic battles-surprising to hear some of the words that haven’t changed too!”
