SANTA FE – Santa Fe Community College’s Film Program announces that two students and two faculty members are recipients of funds from New Mexico Film Office’s Give Back Fund.
In partnership with New Mexico Film Resource and the Santa Fe Community College Foundation, cash awards are given to students for exceptional academic work and entrepreneurial skills. Fellowship award funds are given to faculty members to gain additional skills for their professional careers and then to translate those skills back into the classroom to benefit students.
SFCC students Adriel Takashi Soloway and Regina Nein received $1,000 awards for film capstone projects. Soloway is a Santa Fe High School student who is earning dual credit (both high school and college credits) as an SFCC film crew student.
“I am planning on pursuing a career that involves film and various mediums to tell stories,” Soloway said. Nein is a student worker in the Film Department. “My passion is movies and I’m happy to be part of the Film Department.” She said. Nein plans to use the funds to upgrade her lenses and lighting equipment.
SFCC Film faculty members Diana de Aguinaga Pettersson and Jonathan Mugford each received $2,000 awards for fellowship work and professional development. Pettersson teaches film production to high school students at Monte del Sol Charter School through SFCC’s dual credit program and The MASTERS Program, a charter school based on the SFCC campus. She also works as a cinematography mentor in conjunction with New Mexico Film Resource and as an independent filmmaker.
“The fellowship offers me an opportunity to pilot the Santa Fe FILMWORKS professional training program, working side-by-side with Doug Crawford and David Aubrey, who have sustained media and filmmaking careers both nationally and internationally since the 1980s,” Pettersson said.
Mugford’s main interests are digital cinematography, post-production work and visual effects. He teaches editing and color correction at SFCC and dual credit classes at Santa Fe Indian School. He will use the funds to further develop professional training opportunities for students.
