SFCC News:SANTA FE ― The Veterans Resource Center at Santa Fe Community College will host a Veterans Housing Forum for veterans and their families 3-6 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in the Jemez Rooms at 6401 Richards Ave.
Representatives from more than 20 various housing organizations and nonprofit agencies will answer participants’ questions regarding housing options and opportunities for military veterans and their families. Presenters from Veterans Affairs, Homewise, Habitat for Humanity, the Housing Trust, and the City and County Housing Authority will offer detailed information about housing in Santa Fe.
The forum will open with a Color Guard presentation by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 996 and a special presentation by Mayor Javier Gonzales. Presenters at the event will address the critical housing issues that veterans face: emergency housing, apartment navigation, VA home loans/refinancing, affordable housing and veteran housing.
Veterans Resource Specialist Gregory Scargall said, “The Veterans Resource Center organized this event as a response to feedback received from veterans, particularly SFCC students. One of the biggest challenges faced by veterans is finding suitable housing. It is particularly challenging for veterans who want to attend the college and live in Santa Fe. This forum is the first of its kind to be offered in the state.”
The free event is open to the public. The family-friendly event will offer free refreshments for families and face-painting for kids.
