The Santa Fe Animal Shelter has announced all dogs over the age of 6 months will be fee-waived to celebrate National “Adopt a Shelter Pet Day”, April 30 – May 2 by appointment only.
National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30. This day was created to raise awareness for thousands of pets waiting for (and needing) a forever home from the shelters.
“We are hoping this three-day event will help the community find their next furry family member and help find homes for many of our homeless dogs, some that have been at the shelter for months,” Shelter spokesperson Murad Kirdar said.
Fee-waived adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip and up-to-date vaccines.
All potential adopters must make an appointment before coming into the shelter to look at adoptable animals. To schedule an appointment, visit SFHumaneSociety.org/adoptions or call 505.983.4309 extension 1610. All adopters are required to complete an in-person adoption counseling, per the shelter’s usual process. A city or county license fee will apply.
Santa Fe Animal Shelter will hold its fee-waived adoption event 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 100 Caja del Rio in Santa Fe, and appointments are now being accepted. This event is only happening at the shelter and not at offsite locations.
Last year the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, an open-admission no-kill shelter, saved more than 5,000 animals.
