Police Charge Main Hill Road Speeder

Los Alamos Police arrested the driver of a vehicle seen speeding down the Main Hill Road Tuesday night.

Officers stopped Aaron Victor D. Lopez, 25, of Espanola at 10:11 p.m. before Anderson Overlook and administered a Field Sobriety Test to him, which he failed, according to police.

Lopez has been charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Police issued criminal citations at the scene to two passengers riding in the vehicle, Julia Gonzalez-Marquez, 19, of Espanola and Daniel Cruz-Chafino, 19, of Espanola.

Police Stop Speeder on Main Hill Road – Discover Drugs, Paraphernalia

Los Alamos Police Officers spotted a vehicle speeding down the Main Hill Road this evening at about 10:30 p.m., pulled it over and found the occupants to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Officers were in the process of conducting a Field Sobriety Test on the male driver when this photograph was taken. Police directed traffic around the area of the scene near the shoulder of the road well before Anderson Overlook where two male and one female passengers were being detained. Fire managers have started prescribed burning this morning within the Gallina Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) project area:
Gallina WUI Prescribed Burn, Coyote Ranger District
  • The project area is located 1mile south of the community of Gallina off of State Highway 96 within the Coyote Ranger District.
  • Fifty to 100 acres will be treated over a two day period.
  • Smoke released from the burn may be visible from the communities of Gallina, Lindrith, Regina and Llaves.
  • The Santa Fe National Forest realizes that smoke from prescribed fire can be a nuisance
