NMDOH: Influenza Activity Increasing In New Mexico

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is reporting that influenza is widespread across the state and anticipates heightened activity for weeks to come.
 
Last season, 237 New Mexicans died of pneumonia and/or influenza and already 21 pneumonia and influenza deaths have been reported during the 2019-20 season. Flu symptoms may include rapid illness onset with fever, cough, sore throat, headache, and/or muscle aches.

Bandelier Closed Due To Snowy Conditions

Due to snow accumulation and predicted snow throughout the day, Bandelier is closed today.

 

Any forecast for snow throughout the day will add to clean up efforts once the park reopens. Once it stops snowing park staff will need time to clear the roads, parking lot and Main Loop Trail so that visitors may safely visit the park once again.

Bandelier, Valles Caldera May Begin Pile Burns Sunday

With the arrival of snow providing favorable conditions for pile and prescribed burning, fire crews at Bandelier National Monument and the Valles Caldera National Preserve are planning to burn up to 300 acres of piled fuel materials along N.M. 4 throughout Bandelier and on South Mountain in the Valles Caldera.
 
These burns will begin as early as Dec. 1 and continue through the winter months as conditions allow. 
 
The parameters for implementing a prescribed burn are based upon specific assessments, agency guidelines and safety protocols.
