PPPA News:

Board members of Pinon Park Pool Association have questioned the need for a Splash Pad in White Rock, proposed as part of the Los Alamos County 2017 Recreational Bond.

Pinon Park Pool is a private outdoor pool that has been a part of the White Rock community for over 50 years. Located on Bryce Avenue, just east of Rover Boulevard, Pinon Park Pool is less than a mile from the proposed Splash Pad site at Rocket Park.

Quote from Leilani Christensen, President of the Board of Pinon Park Pool Association:

“We want to remind families in Los Alamos County interested in the proposed Splash Pad that Pinon Park Pool opens for the 2017 season on May 27 and memberships are still available.”

Pinon Park Pool features many of the facilities proposed in the White Rock splash pad design. Pinon Park Pool provides a shaded kiddie pool, inflatable pool toys, play area, two slides, diving board, covered lounge areas, tables and grills for picnics, changing facilities, and a snack bar.

The pool is known for its quiet, relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere and offers a safe place to introduce young children to water recreational activities, while being patrolled at all times by Red Cross-certified lifeguards.

Pinon Park Pool is also the only swimming pool in Los Alamos County that allows use of the pool’s and other lifeguard-approved flotation devices at all times; other pools in the County place restrictions on the use of large floats.

Pinon Park Pool is open during the summer Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Free swim days will be held on June 4 and 5, and July 9 and 10. Pinon Park Pool fees have been reduced this year. With four membership-level options fees to swim for the summer range from $300 for individuals to $450 for a family of four or more.

Quote from Leilani Christensen:

“We invite all residents of Los Alamos and White Rock interested in the proposed Splash Pad to consider joining Pinon Park Pool.”
