PEEC Amateur Naturalist: Tadpoles and Temporary Streams

PEEC Amateur Naturalist: Tadpoles and Temporary Streams
By ROBERT DRYJA

An estimated 88 percent of the miles of streams in New Mexico are intermittent as shown in the hydrographic map.

Extensive permanent streams exist only in the mountains of northeastern New Mexico. The Los Alamos area is typical of this pattern. The few perennial streams are in the higher elevations toward the Valles Caldera, while many intermittent and ephemeral streams are in the lower elevations toward the Rio Grande.

By ED BIRNBAUM
Los Alamos

Ken Milder’s letter encouraging voters to vote down Question 2 on the November ballot has some incorrect and/or misleading statements regarding the revisions proposed to Article V of the Los Alamos County Charter that address the operation and oversight of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

Although it is true that the language in Question 2 appears to be completely new, the text of roughly half of Article V is actually not new, but rather just rearranged for clarity and to separate fundamental issues so that they are not co-mingled, as they are in the current Article Read More

A couple of quotes make the point: “As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality” and “Since the mathematicians have invaded the theory of relativity, I do not understand it myself anymore.”
