It can be frustrating because many do not believe in the power of prayer and so they feel as if no real help is being offered, and nothing else will be done. But to be fair, for many Christians, prayer is an act that relieves them of the responsibility to get further involved in what may be happening. Prayer is important—it has the power to change the world; but it should never be an excuse for inaction.

Often when a family has lost a son, brother, a husband and a father, they feel compelled to give. Mark Wolfsberg grew up in Los Alamos and was on the Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers speech and debate team from 1979-1982.

MICHAEL H. J. BACKSEN July 17, 1941 Dec. 3, 2015
 
Mike Backsen died on Dec. 3, 2015. He was born on July 17, 1941, in Mandan, North Dakota. After graduating from high school, he spent three years in the Navy.
 
He married Marcy Buresh in 1965, while attending North Dakota State University. She preceded him in death in 2006. He received a BSEE from NDSU in 1966 and an MSEE for the University of Wyoming in 1968. He and Marcy raised their family in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where Mike worked at the Los Alamos National Lab for 34 years.
