In between thunderstorms, it’s great to be out under the stars on August evenings, and Bandelier will be offering many evening programs over the next two weeks. 
 
They’re presented at the amphitheater at Juniper Campground, weather permitting, and both campers and non-campers are welcome.

Udall, Heinrich Cosponsor Bill To Allow Medicare To Negotiate A Better Deal On Prescription Drug Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Yesterday, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich joined in cosponsoring legislation led by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) to unleash the bargaining power of seniors for a better deal on prescription drug costs.
 
The legislation would allow for Medicare to negotiate the best possible price of prescription drugs to cut costs for nearly 41 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D. Current law prevents Medicare from directly negotiating for lower drug prices, a practice regularly used to bring down prescription drug

Los Alamos County has contracted with Santa Fe trial and appellate attorney John B. Pound to conduct an investigation into an ethics complaint filed against County Councilors Susan O’Leary and James Chrobocinski. The complaint was filed by former resident Patrick Brenner in connection with the two Councilors involvement with a Political Action Committee during the recent Recreation Bond Election.

A non-DPU water line break has impacted the roadway on East Jemez near the Los Alamos Transit Mix station and the eastbound traffic will be blocked at 6 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.

No downhill traffic will be allowed during this time and only westbound (uphill traffic) will be allowed.

Letter To The Editor: County Councilors Should Not Be Swayed By Bullying

In light of the threat of lawsuits against the County made at the July 26 council meeting, it seems ill-advised to discuss further the resolution to expand the Sheriff’s duties and authorities until the legal matters are resolved. Similarly, efforts to modify the County charter under the cloud of legal challenges should be postposed pending a resolution of those issues. The County should not be swayed by the bullying of a few county residents.

All of North America will be treated Monday, Aug. 21, to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights … a total solar eclipse.
