Computer Issues Intermittently Close Los Alamos MVD

The Motor Vehicle Department office at 997 Central Ave., in Los Alamos has intermittently closed during business hours over the last couple of weeks with a sign on the locked door stating ‘Closed until further notice’. A call to the local office Friday resulted in an answering machine saying there would be an 18 minute wait on the line. The Los Alamos Daily Post placed a call for comment Friday afternoon to the MVD in Santa Fe in which an employee explained that the Los Alamos office has been experiencing computer problems but is now back in business. SANTA FE The Interstate Stream Commission (ISC) on Thursday accepted the Taos Regional Water Plan.

ESPANOLA  The Espanola Valley Humane Society (EVHS) has announced the opening of its newly renovated clinic space.
 
The clinic features a dedicated lobby and space for client consultations, a renovated surgery suite and increased capacity for animal recovery after spay/neuter or other surgeries. In addition, cats and dogs now have separate recovery areas.

The Los Alamos History Museum is excited to congratulate the winners of the museum’s coloring contest: Kalylah H. (1st place), Lilja S. (2nd place), and Oceanah G. (3rd place).
 
The coloring contest was open to all ages during the month of June and artists as young as 4 and as old as 70 submitted their interpretations of a coloring page from Meet Bences Gonzales. The three winners will get a pizza party at Ashley Pond Park and a special guided tour of the Romero Cabin, which Bences Gonzales helped to build.

Nuclear Watch New Mexico Seeks To Invalidate New Cleanup Order For LANL

DOE News:

Nuclear Watch New Mexico amended its complaint against the U.S. Department of Energy and Los Alamos National Security, LLC, which alleges 12 cleanup violations of the 2005 Consent Order issued by the New Mexico Environment Department for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The amendment is asking the federal court to invalidate the recently issued Consent Order because the Department did not hold a formal public hearing as required by federal and state hazardous waste laws and regulations.

NMDOT Announces I-25 Lane Closures July 24-Aug. 1

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) continues construction on the  I-25/NM14 (Cerrillos Road) Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) south of Santa Fe.

Motorists can expect various lane closures and delays on I-25 from mile marker 276.00 to mile marker 278.00.

Sunday July 24-28, starting at 7 a.m. the I-25 northbound lanes will be reduced to one lane. The I-25 northbound off ramp (Exit 278) to NM 14 (Cerrillos Road) will be CLOSED. Heinrich Secures Final Passage Of Measure To Enhance Security Of Non-Secure, Perimeter Areas At Airports

WASHINGTON, D. C.  U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) led a group of senators in securing final passage of a provision he introduced earlier this year to enhance U.S. airport and mass transit security.
 
The provision was included in the bipartisan, bicameral Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) extension, which authorizes the agency and its programs through September 30, 2017 and passed the Senate by a vote of 89 to 4. The bill now goes to the President to be signed into law.
