Staff Report

Los Alamos welcomed the Knights of Columbus and members of the Ladies Auxiliary from all over the New Mexico to the state organizational meeting July 8-10. This is the first time Los Alamos has hosted the statewide event.

“Sacred Heart Council 3137 is proud to host this year’s state organizational meeting in our beautiful town of Los Alamos,” stated outgoing Grand Knight Jeffrey S. Brown, Sacred Heart Council #3137.

He added that the annual organizational meeting is a great way to kick off the new fraternal year for the organization, and is especially important to new officers as a way to integrate with the state and other councils, and for all to reconnect with old friends.

The event also included a Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament and dinner at the Los Alamos County Golf Course. Funds raised from this event will be used to award scholarships to Los Alamos High School students.

The organizational meetings were held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall on Canyon Road. A ladies program included a tour of historical sites around Los Alamos followed by a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall on DP Road. A special Mass was held July 9 at IHM. Nearly 200 hotel rooms around the community were blocked for the three-day event.

About Knights of Columbus

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church.

The Council

The Sacred Heart Council is located in Los Alamos, at the intersection of Trinity Drive and DP Road at 401 Trinity Dr. The group works closely with Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and members are active participants in the IHM parish.
