Fr. Glenn: A(nother) Fiery Father’s Day

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

Dang, another fire … just like last year at this time. In the Valle Caldera, no less.  Well … hopefully the rain we just received (thank you, Lord!) will knock some of these conflagrations down around the state and up in Colorado.

As you know, one of the greatest tragedies of most wildfires is that they are so often caused simply by persons careless in watching and/or dousing campfires. Thus, we see how responsibility can equal charity. These human-caused fires are perfect examples of the “an ounce of prevention Read More

Taking a sledgehammer to your outdated kitchen may sound like fun, but realistically, renovating your home is a process that requires a lot of time and care.

Deciding to gut the bathroom and add a master walk-in closet is a great idea until you realize you need to do a plumbing update throughout the Read More

Today I saw a beautiful young fox. He was crossing the path that runs across the steep wooded hill above our local creek. The water was quiet since we have had little rain lately. The creek can be quite noisy after a rain. It drains the steep meadows that reach out to Skyline Blvd, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean four miles up hill.

The fox saw me and froze for a moment. So did I. When I reached for my camera, he started across the trail, then stopped and looked me

Katharine Coggeshall
Los Alamos

Your child’s birthday is the single most important day of the year to them. And although they may imagine a pop-up amusement park in your backyard with a personal stage for Taylor Swift to perform, your wallet may be wondering what other party options are available in Los Alamos.

With my son’s eighth birthday looming, the pressure is on to discover the best local party venues for kids. The balance between cost and childhood expectations is at the forefront of my mind, but I have managed to identify a number of candidate venues.
